Booked with Malta Direct. A gem of a hotel - OK, a little faded but still with appreciable grandeur and style. Doesn't attract families with youngsters, so a complete absence of noisy screaming children. This hotel was horrible. I would recommend it to backpackers paying no more than ten euros a night B&B [and then only if they were not too fussy about the breakfast]. The room was dirty. There was no undersheet on the mattress. The covers were stained. The 'air conditioning' was old and hardly functioned. The bathroom window would not open.... more

Founded in 1865, this hotel has preserved many of its original features and still evokes the British Empire in its interior decoration though it also possesses modern additions like a courtyard swimming pool. The Imperial Hotel experience is much as described by our fellow travellers. The entrance lobby and lounge of this hotel must once have looked splendid. There is still great potential there, but to me it was faded grandeur. The bedroom, although clean, appeared grubby (a worm on the wall from outside did not help). The en suite bathroom had no door and the shower unit was of the rubber hose/mixer tap variety.... more
