Me and my partner are staying at the Hilton Colombo for 2 weeks between 20th dec and 4th jan. can you tell me a bit about the city? things to do? trip? eating out? clubs? bars? nightlife? shopping? etc?(everything basically)thank you so much in advance

Hi there,

One of the most boring capitals in the world ;-) And this from the mouth of people having their 2nd home there...

Near the Hilton are some clubs and bars, partly inside hotels and partly independent. That's about the nightlife here. Shopping plenty - a bit at walking distance of Hilton (Pettah bazaar, Laksala) but most requires a tuktuk trip. Odel, House of Fashions, Majestic City, Crescat City, Liberty Plaza are some malls/shop names.

Day trips are recommended, e.g. Pinawela and Galle Fort. However the true Lankan beauty, e.g. Kandy and Hill Country and safaris, requires overnight trips as transport in Lanka is very slow (40 km/h).
