We are thinking of flying to Male from Mumbai via Colombo on the following flight:

Mumbai to Colombo

03.25 - 05.45

Colombo to Male

07.10 - 08.05

This option has been given to us by various websites. Do you guys think this will enough time to connect through to Male. Has anyone been on this combination before?

Cheers!

If say my flight arrived at 06:15 at Colombo - would I still have time to get to the Male flight? Is the departures area big? Does anybody know when they actually shut the aircraft doors before departure from the gate?

Even then. The airport has solely 12 airbridge-gates plus in special cases 2 bus-gates. You can transit from one gate to another. Door usually closes 10 mins before leaving.

All the best,

I would say yes. If already have your boarding pass, you can tranfer in 15 mins.

Alternatively SriLankan transfer desk is at the start of the pier.

There is only one pier at CMB with arrivals and departures at the same level, so distances are quite short.

Normally you have to be at the gate 30 mins prior to departure. My expirience is that they close the doors about 10 min before push back.

Thanks for the replies.

If my flight into Colombo from Mumbai arrives at 05:45, does that mean the time it lands or the time it docks at the gate?

Just looked at the flight arrival from Mumbai today into Colombo for 11 Sep and Sri Lankan are saying the flight is almost delayed by 2 hours!!

Hi there,

Generally those timetable/ticket times tell about gate docking.

And yes, delays DO happen everywhere though not often. However if it is one combined ticket the airline is responsible for serving you, and will put you on the next available flight (CMB - Male is 2-3 x per day) and arrange food/hotel etc.

ALl the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

I hope I get my boarding card for Male at Mumbai otherwise that will be a pain! But I gather if they check the luggage through from Mumbai then they would have to issue me with boarding card?

If they don't issue me with a boarding card then I take it the transit counter at the start of the pier which you guys have mentioned is where I would get my Male boarding pass? As long as I don't have to check in again!

Hi there,

In case you have a multi-airline ticket these 2 issues are not necessarily linked (luggage is easier than boarding pass). But as you have an all-UL ticket should be no problem. And if any, indeed the transfer desk at the start of the pier...

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

I hope the transit desk is open at 5.45am! Think I read somewhere that they arrived in Colombo mid-morning and the desk was shut and they had to go through check-in to get onto their transit flight.
