my husband and i have just returned from a weeks stay at this fab hotel.the service, food and general ambiance was first class.the staff were very efficient and friendly.extremely polite and nothing was too much bother for them.very refreshing in itself! Our room was a delux sea facing and it is worth paying the supplememnt as the view was stunning.the room was clean and attractive but not luxurious.the maid service was excellent with clean sheets daily and clean towels twice daily.the managment were extremely courteous and even welcomed us personally on arrival which was a nice touch.the champagne party on the second night was lovely with endless complimentary glasses of champagne and the most delightful appetisers.again the managers made sure they came and chatted to everyone.we ate every night in the colombo restaurant which was a delight with four courses and some excellent wines reasonably priced as are most of the drinks including the fab cocktails.we did not have a bad meal.the fish supper/buffet banquet night was spectacular.you will need to go on a diet when you come home!im finding it hard to say anything negative and the only thing i can think that only slightly niggled me was that when we visited the spa on both occasions the turkish bath/sauna were out of action.the pool however is lovely and we often had it to ourselves.our stay overall was great and we are definately going to return in the near future.cant wait!

“Loved this hotel and location”

My wife and I shared a very special holiday at this hotel to celebrate my birthday and our wedding anniversary. The settings, service and facilities were excellent. The pool, restaurant and reception staff were very helpful and of a high quality. The hotel food was very good.

If we were return to Maderia we will definitely return to this hotel.

We can recommend a mountain trip to Pico do Arieiro for the views and to be able to look down at the clouds! We enjoyed a day out on the west side of the island, in particular Porto Moniz – the views and swimming in the natural sea pools were spectacular.

A tip – we hired a car and drove the old coast road, which gave us a view of the old Madeira. There are very modern roads but if you get off these the scenery can be more interesting. Lots of tunnels on the modern roads but a lack of road signs can be confusing!

The coastal walk from the hotel to Funchal is recommended plus the cable car and the sledge ride is a must.

We eat out a number of times and the only disappointment was Granny House Restaurant on the main road from the hotel in to Funchal. If you want to have bad service and mediocre food please try this restaurant!!

The local fish is Scabbard (also known as Esparta and King-Flip), this fish is fleshy but is bland, and therefore it is normally served with various flavourings, such as Mango, Banana and Onion. The only time we enjoyed this dish was in the hotel when it was served with Olives.

We were informed that Madeira is for older people but we found a varied mix of ages on this island.

Wondereful, clean, large rooms very helpful staff, good food. Wish I could bring it back to USA. They helped my father find the family he lost contact with when he left in 1920. They helped me find a place that would sell me the medication I left at home. Never hesitate THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY. Can't wait to return. Even a 22 to 24 hour plane trip is worth being able to stay at the Madeira Palacio Resort Hotel. Madiera needs no other hotel.

We have recently returned from our 3rd visit to Madeira,. We first stayed at the Palacio in 2003 the hotel had been recommended to us by friends.
It is wonderful, and we really can'nt find anything negative to say about it. The rooms are clean comfortable and well appointed. I f you require tea/coffee facilities just ask and they will be supplied. The food is extremely good. The staff too are excellent they are attentive without being intrusive, infact we feel as though we are meeting with old friends when we visit as do many other guests as we have met several people on return visits who were there on our previous holidays. I read one review that said the hotel had tried to book them on several tours (4) in one week, well thats never happened to us, we usually get the hotel to book our regular taxi Silvestre or his father Augustino and they take us out for maybe half a day at a very good rate, they make excellent guides.

All of the staff help to make our holiday heaven and Mr Gomez in the colonial bar makes 'one mean dry martini'. Cheers, heres to our next visit

Madiera Palacio met all our expectations, personal service, comfort and good food. The views from the room were captivating, especially at sunset viewing the highest cliff and mountain lights. The pools, inside and out were a good size, which were managed by friendly staff. Found complementary
bus to Funchal very useful, and also local bus frequent. Breakfast was varied and plentiful, evening dinner on the terrace overlooking garden was
memorable and food delicious. Fresh fruit at all meals tasted wonderful.
Hotel facilities are to a high standard, and provide a very relaxing holiday.
Also we must complement the staff for providing such a good service.
We shall return!
