I had read about the spooky history of Rose Hall Great House before our trip to Jamaica so I knew that this was a must see on my list. My husband and I arranged a private taxi from our resort since our resort did not offer this as one of their tours. We were at Sandals Royal Carribean in Montego Bay. Rose Hall is only about 15 minutes from the resort so the entire trip only took a little over an hour. Our driver took us to Rose Hall and stayed there while we toured the house and grounds and then took us back to Sandals and the cost was 40.00. Admission into the house was 20.00 per person which I thought was a little expensive considering there isn't much to the tour and you are not there very long. The tour was interesting, especially if you like history and also like spooky history. Rose Hall and the grounds were beautiful. I was a little disappointed with the tour for a few reasons. The house was purchased and restored by an American couple in the early 1960's but they did not restore it to how it originally was so the inside of the house only contained a few of the rooms that would have been there originally. There were also only 3 pieces of original furnishings in the house that belonged to Annie Palmer. The tour guide was very knowledgeable but she also hurried through the tour which did not give you a lot of time to take pictures. At the beginning of the tour I would wait till she got done talking to take pictures and by that time she had already moved on to a different room and was waiting on me. I kept apologizing for holding her up and felt very rushed. By the end of the tour I was taking pictures while she was talking but then I missed a lot of what she was saying. For 20.00 per person they don't give you a whole lot of time inside the house. Once you go outside, you are not allowed back in. You are free to walk the grounds as long as you like. The gift shop is also located inside the old dungeon and the tour guide showed us the dungeon and then said that this is the time to look at the items to purchase in the gift shop. This was find, but she stood there staring at us the whole time so we felt obligated to look at everything but then at the same time we felt like we didn't have a lot of time to actually shop because it was like she was staring at us because she was ready to get on with the tour.
Overall, it was interesting and I am glad we went but I think it was way too expensive for what you actually got out of it.
